DIVINE HEALING 

John Wesley also recorded that he was miraculously healed on more than one occasion. In one such instance, he was so sick he couldn’t even raise his head. 

He wrote:

Friday, 8.—I found myself much out of order. However, I made shift to preach in the evening; but on Saturday my bodily strength quite failed so that for several hours I could scarcely lift up my head. Sunday, 10. I was obliged to lie down most part of the day, being easy only in that posture. Yet in the evening my weakness was suspended while I was calling sinners to repentance. But at our love-feast which followed, beside the pain in my back and head and the fever which still continued upon me, just as I began to pray I was seized with such a cough that I could hardly speak. At the same time came strongly into my mind, “These signs shall follow them that believe” [Mark 16:17]. I called on Jesus aloud to “increase my faith” and to “confirm the word of his grace.” While I was speaking my pain vanished away; the fever left me; my bodily strength returned; and for many weeks I felt neither weakness nor pain. “Unto thee, O Lord, do I give thanks.”

Of another occasion, he wrote,

When Mr. Shepherd and I left Smeton, my horse was so exceedingly lame that I was afraid I must have lain by too. We could not discern what it was that was amiss; and yet he would scarcely set his foot to the ground. By riding thus seven miles, I was thoroughly tired, and my headache more than it had done for some months. (What I here aver is the naked fact: let every man account for it as he sees good.) I then thought, “Cannot God heal either man or beast, by any means, or without any?” Immediately my weariness and headache ceased, and my horse’s lameness in the same instant. Nor did he halt any more either that day or the next.

The Wesley brother sometimes covered sixty miles a day in order to get to a prearranged destination on time. They traveled tirelessly, meeting the people wherever they were, learning about their needs and how best they could help them spiritually, mentally, and physically.

A lady came over 100 miles, greatly afflicted with a tumor in her throat and one under her arm. She had had no use of her arm for 8 years; it was always cold and looked like the hand of a corpse. As I prayed and told her in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to stretch forth her hand, she did so, and it was made whole like the other!

 She clapped her hands above her head, giving glory to God. She told the people her hand had been asleep for eight years, but was made whole. She testified often and I was told she was well, that she could feed herself and comb her hair, and that she had been baptized with the Holy Ghost!

A lady on Muscatine, who had a withered hand for 15 years, was healed. The bone of her wrist was raised and the fingers were drawn crooked. The hand had been cold and helpless all these years. I took hold of her hand and prayed, and in a moment it was whole as the other! The woman was healed in the presence of several thousand men, women, and children, who wept and shouted for joy at this manifestation of God’s power, just as they did when Jesus was on earth!

The Gift Of Faith

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

THIS IS HOW THE GIFT OF FAITH IS MANIFESTED. 

You see an object and you know that your own faith is nothing in the case. The other day I was in San Francisco. I sat on a car and saw a boy in great agony on the street. I said, "Let me get out." I rushed to where the boy was. He was in agony through cramping of the stomach. I put my hands on his stomach and prayed in the name of Jesus. The boy jumped, and stared at me with astonishment. He found himself instantly free.

 The gift of faith dared in the face of everything. It is as we are in the Spirit that the Spirit of God will operate this gift anywhere and at any time.  When the Spirit of God is operating this gift within a man, He causes him to know what God is going to do. When the man with the withered hand was in the synagogue, Jesus got all the people to look to see what would happen. 

The gift of faith always knows the results. He said to the man, "Stretch forth thine hand." His word had creative force. He was not living on the line of speculation. He spoke and something happened. He spake at the beginning and the world came into being. He speaks today and these things have to come to pass. He is the Son of God and came to bring us into sonship. He was the first fruit of the resurrection and He calls us to be first fruits, to be the same kind of fruit like to Himself.

There is an important point here. You cannot have the gifts by mere human desire. The Spirit of God distributes them severally as He will. God cannot trust some with the gift, but some who have a lowly, broken, contrite heart He can trust. 

One day I was in a meeting where there were a lot of doctors and eminent men, and many ministers. It was at a convention, and the power of God fell on the meeting. One

humble little girl that waited at the table opened her being to the Lord and was immediately filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak in tongues. All these big men stretched their

necks and looked up to see what was happening and were saying, "Who is it?" Then they learned it was "the servant!" Nobody received but "the servant!"

 These things are hidden and kept back from the wise and prudent, but the little children, the lowly ones, are the ones that receive. We cannot have faith if we have honor one of another. A man who is going on with God won't accept honor from his fellow beings. God honors the man of a broken, contrite spirit.

 HOW SHALL I GET THERE? So many people want to do great things, and to be seen doing them, but the one that God will use is the one that is willing to be hidden. My Lord Jesus never said He could do things, but He did them. When the funeral procession was coming up from Nain with the widow's son carried upon the bier, He made them lay it down. He spoke the word, "Arise!" and gave the son back to the widow. He had compassion for her. And you and I will never do anything except on the line of compassion. We shall never be able to remove the cancer until we are immersed so deeply into the power of the Holy Ghost that the compassion of Christ is moving through us.

“RAISED FROM THE DEAD”

1104 Broadway, Indianapolis.

“About five weeks ago, one Sunday night, I was attending the meetings, and was sitting listening to Sister Etter preaching when I turned real sick, and a voice said said to me, “Come with me.” I went outside the church, a sister accompanying me, and the same voice said again, “This is death, come now, go with me.”

That was the last I remembered on earth, only I thought of my son in the army and that no one would know where to sent to notify him of my death. Presently, it seemed to me I was in heaven, in a place where there was such light and rest and joy. I heard singing and all kinds of different instruments. I saw my earthly father and children, and talked with the Lord, and then a voice said, “You can go back for a while,” and then I heard Sister Etter’s voice calling on me in the name of Jesus.”

From Anderson we went to Pendleton, Indiana, to hold meetings in the United Brethren Church for three days. A number were converted and several healed of bodily ailments.

A farmer living near Pendleton was healed in our meeting six years before (1885). He had been in the asylum 3-4 years. He would get a little better for a few days, then be worse than ever.

His friends brought him to the meeting. He was converted and healed instantly. He went home and took charge of his farm. He has been a businessman and a Christian since then. Eternity alone will tell the results of the one week’s meeting at Pendleton nine years ago and this three days’ meeting.

From Pendleton we went to Indianapolis, to visit the Church of God, which we organized nearly five years before. When we arrived at the church, we found the large building crowded. The church was all in harmony and on fire for God. We continued the meeting five days, had two meetings a day during the week and three on Sabbath.

 The house was crowded day and night, and many turned away. The interest was so great we had to request the young people to stay away and give room for the older. The altar was crowded day and night with seekers—some for salvations of the soul, some for the healing of the body, and some for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The power of the Lord was present to heal both soul and body. A number of God’s children received the baptism for service.

(This was before the Azusa Street outpouring of people receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues-1891). They obeyed the command of Jesus, “Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until you shall be endued with power from on high.”

Among those converted were two men 80 years old. One had been afflicted most all his life. He was healed and converted at the same time. There never was a brighter prospect for revival in any place than at Indianapolis. But we were compelled to leave, as our appointments were out ahead.

(That’s probably why she was lead to build her Woodworth-Etter Tabernacle in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1918)

T. L. Osborn On The Radio

People Healed Listening to a Radio Broadcast.

 A radio station offered T. L. forty-five minutes free of charge to enable him to minister to the thousands of people who were unable to get to the crusade. Policemen were sent to guard the radio station from being invaded by the people during the broadcasts.

A man reported that a woman next door to him who was listening to the broadcast, was healed of paralysis. Her leg and arm had been drawn up for many years. In a moment, she was made whole and was going everywhere testifying of her healing.

A man from a city ninety miles away brought an old woman to the crusade in order to let her testify. She was healed of total blindness that day during the radio ministry. At least fifty miracles had already been reported as a result of the broadcast.

Sunday school

All those visible spaces.

The ones we show to the world.

The ones that look like we have our act together.

The ones where we will be praised.

He’s bigger than that. Much much bigger.

His heart is bigger.

His presence is bigger.

His well-worn, tenderness is bigger.

BECAUSE

He’s also and especially the God of

Oncology visits

Broken hearts

Empty checking accounts

Funeral parlors

Rehab rooms

Sleepless and fitful nights

Bathroom floors

Messy selves and messy lives

The places where it’s just us and Him.

The ones only He can really see.

Hear.

Understand.

Guide.

Comfort.

Heal.

The places of

Loss

Despair

Loneliness

Doubt

Fear

That are also the places of

Growth

Hope

Belonging

Grace

Peace

The places that nothing and no one else can touch.

Except for this big big, “very present help in time of trouble,” tender-hearted God.

Those are the most sacred places of all.

And some of the most beautiful.

Jesus Must Be the Center

Hello everyone. Praise the Lord!

Here is a wonderful message that I read from another source, and I would love to share it here.

In any true and pure move of the Holy Ghost, Jesus will always be THE CENTER.  

Healing cannot become the message. 

Deliverance cannot become the message. 

Prosperity cannot become the message.  

Tongues cannot become the message. 

Spiritual warfare cannot become the message. 

Signs, miracles, and wonders cannot be the message.  

THE MESSAGE MUST REMAIN CENTERED AND FOCUSED UPON JESUS. 

He is the foundation. 

He is the absolute TRUTH. 

He is the measure of all things. 

When it becomes about deliverance, prosperity, prophecy, and theology, though wonderful, we begin to WANDER.

Divinely Healed

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

This is a story as reported by William J. Seymour and his book called, "The Azusa Street Papers," published in 1906.

Brother J. A. Warren of Houston, Texas, relates his experience as follows: "I had suffered two years from chills and fever and could never get rid of them. I was down with them, when it was told to me that the Lord would heal us and wanted to do it without the help of medicine, so I made up my mind that I would not have another chill; that the Lord would heal me. My chill was to come on about seven o'clock in the morning. It started to come and I was about to call my people to put more cover over me, when I thought how I had taken the Lord for my healer. So I got up and dressed and would not let the devil bring a chill on me, but prepared for breakfast. When the ice wagon came along and my little grandchild called my attention to it, I started to say, "No, I will not take ice for this is my chill day." (I was in the habit of taking ice only on the day I had fever). Then I stopped myself and said, "Yes, I will take ice," And I drank ice water all day. I was healed and in two months had gained about twenty-five pounds in flesh."

No Bottom

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

This is a true story told by William J. Seymour in his book, "The Azusa Street Papers," in 1906.

We meet many honest souls these days who are under the delusion that they have committed the unpardonable sin.  The following incident should be an encouragement to such.

A child of God was attacked by the enemy with the suggestion that she was forsaken of God and had committed the unpardonable sin.  She was then on a mission field in the South, separated from other Christian workers; And without any apparent cause, The archenemy that tempted our Savior told her that God hated her.  The words, "God hated you" seem to be continually shouted in her ears and she cannot get away from it.  She lost her faith and believed the enemy, not knowing his power.  The next suggestion was, "drown yourself in the river." She stood looking into the dark water, but the thought of her dear mother made her turn away.

She returned to her room, and throwing herself down, fell asleep and dreamed.  She seemed to be on a boat on which all the people but herself were rejoicing and praising God.  She heard the Captain call out to the pilot, "sound the depths and compare it with the love of God." The depths were sounded in the call came back "No bottom! No bottom!" She awoke in the ocean of God's love, All darkness past in the cry bringing in her ears, "No bottom!" For your sense then she has been in Gospel work on both sides of the ocean.
