The Way Of Truth

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is an article from an unknown author that I wanted to share.

Google commons

Jesus Christ is the Way the Truth and the Life. The truth will make you free. Truth is defined as that which is fact. You can go no higher than truth. You can go no higher than Jesus, He is truth. Everything else is below Him. He is truth personified. He is truth in word and deed. The truth is absolute, complete, absent of any falsehood, pretense, or inaccuracy.

Truth is pure, free from the smallest inkling of an error. It is exact, precise. If we are to attain truth, we must build our pursuit on truth. The truth is the Word. Truth is every jot and tittle in its place. The God who has kept the word – kept His word.

Who is the Father? How would we describe him? A search of the entire book would yield two defining characteristics: He is the Holy one of Israel. He is Holy and He is a Spirit. Would it be correct to call Him a Holy Spirit? Yes. He is the ancient of days. Is it true the trinity is three co-equal persons? Jesus said my Father is greater than I. He was simply saying; my Father is a spirit, and the body I have taken on is flesh. The Spirit of God is greater than a fleshly temple.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love Me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but He sent Me.

Google commons

God is an invisible spirit that fills the universe. He fills the heaven of heavens. At what time He chooses, He has manifested Himself in the form of angels and light. Jesus said, “I am the Way the Truth and the Life. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. Mark 8:36 What would it profit a purpose driven man to have his best life now and lose his own soul? You can absolutely, unequivocally , undoubtedly count on the Lord Jesus Christ to do everything He says He will do. He is Logos. He is the Word of God. He is our father. Malachi 2:10 says have we not all one Father? He is the everlasting Father full of grace and truth.

His word fails not. Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail…Isaiah 34:16 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail. Luke 16:17. He will not fail. (tittle= the tiniest bit--A small mark used in printing and writing such as an accent or punctuation mark.

He is the Chief Shepherd. He is the lamb of God. There is no office He does not fill. He is the high priest that offered Himself as the sacrifice. Truth, do you want it? Truth, do you have it? He is the spirit of truth. He is the way the truth and the life. There is only one true church. That church was founded on the day of Pentecost. If we are brothers, truth binds us. There are no cousins in this church.

Google commons

Jesus said it was His church. On this rock I will build my-(singular possessive pronoun) church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. The bible is one book written by one God.

The bible was written by 40 different writers, over a period of 1600 years. The single most important event outlined in the Holy Book is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The reason He came was not to live, rather He came to die. The culmination of the sacred thoughts of God were finally finished. When did it begin? He was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. It was not written back then, but it was in the mind of God. He would one day manifest himself in flesh and be crucified for you and me.

The event of the ages has taken place. 2000 years ago Jesus Christ of Nazareth died on Mt Calvary. He was buried in a borrowed tomb. He arose on the third day.

He is God. He is God alone. There is none like Him. None can be compared to Him. None can give Him counsel. He will not share his glory with another. There is only one thing He does not know; another God. His breath is our life. Our lives are in the palm of His hand. In Him we live and move and have our very being. He made us a living soul. There is only one perfect, Holy, God breathed book in the entire universe. Let God be true and every man a liar.

Google commons

He is Logos. He is thought. But his thoughts are much higher than ours. If He thinks it, it was already there. He does not discover truth, He is Truth. He does not increase in knowledge. His thoughts are perfect. He does not think before He speaks. He doesn’t ponder, hesitate, wonder, experiment, He is perfect. He is complete. He is God. Every adjective fails to come close to matching his Glory and splendor. He is the only true and wise God, Jesus Christ our savior.

His ways are higher than ours are. He is beyond finding out. Our wisdom is foolishness with Him. There is only one thing to do. Worship Him. He is Alpha, Omega, the beginning and the end the first and the last, and beside Him there is no God. Who has given Him counsel? None. Jesus was made a little lower than the angels. Jesus Christ was born a man. His name shall be called Emmanuel. He was in the world, and the world was created by Him. He reveals Himself to select ones. He won’t slip trip or fall, and He doesn’t wear safety shoes.

If you know who He is, there would be no necessity of a revelation. No man can say Jesus Christ is Lord except by the Holy Ghost. This is the crux of the matter, the hinge point of Christianity. Do you know who Jesus is? He is God, Spirit, Holiness, and manifested in the flesh. He is not the second person in the trinity manifest. Not the son of a father. Answer these questions if you can. What form was the Son in the beginning? What form was the Father in? The Spirit? There was no form, there was no manifestation there was the thought of God which is invisible, the Spirit which is invisible. The Spirit, the Word are indivisibly one. Jesus said the words I speak are spirit and they are life. The Father, the Word, the Spirit are inextricably linked together.

Google commons

In the beginning was a throne? No. In the beginning was the heavens and the earth? No. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. In the beginning was the Word. In what form? A bible? Written words? None of these. The very essence of God is what makes him God; His mind. Logos.

That’s who He is. One single mind. In the beginning, if our finite minds can imagine it, there was nothing. There was only God alone. No heaven, no earth. Only God in his eternal form that never changes. He is the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God. Time was not yet on the clock. There was no light. There was no darkness. There was only God. There was only Logos. There was only a name. A name that would one day be revealed, the name above every name. His name is above every name in this world, and the world to come.

Isaiah would come the closest in describing that name. He shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace. His name heals, delivers, sets the captive free, heals blinded eyes, opens deaf ears. His name is the saving name. His name is the only name given under heaven among men whereby we must be saved. There is salvation in no other name. Jesus! We must be saved by that name. The salvation is in the name.

Google commons

Who is Jesus? How would you describe him? He is the Word of God. He is the thought of God. He is God. He is all, everything, complete, perfect. He is indescribable. He is the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

He has exalted His word above all His name. His word is the very essence of who He is. He is the Word made flesh. His essence is His character. He is Love. He is the I AM. He is the creator of this universe. He is the creator of all things. He is the saviour of the world. He is the BRANCH. He is the door. He is the lamb. He is the high priest. He has a name and that name is Jesus Christ. He kept us, and died for us before we ever heard the Name. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Before His Name came from our lips, He was calling us.

The Mouse that Ate The Church

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is a fun article from an unknown author that I wanted to share.

Google commons

The Mouse that ate the church

A Lion lay sleeping and a Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and ran across the Lion's nose. Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his paw angrily on the tiny mouse  to kill it. "Spare me!" begged the Mouse. "Please let me go and some day I will surely repay you."

The Lion was amused to think a Mouse could ever help him. But he agreed and let the Mouse go. Days later, while stalking prey, the Lion was caught in a hunter's net. Unable to get free, he filled the forest with angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free. Aesop’s Fable.

It’s small things that destroy. The little foxes spoil the vines. Conversely, it’s small things that make things great as well. Great success comes in small steps. Many people can do great things, however, doing small things consistently well everyday is where true growth takes place. 52 weeks. 365 days.

Google commons

A mouse can fit through a hole the size of a dime. It doesn’t take much to let unclean things into your life. A doorway has been used do describe letting the enemy in our lives, yet it doesn’t take a doorway.

The teeth of a mouse never stop growing. It’s life depends on keeping them small enough to function. If a mouse stops chewing on things their teeth will continue to grow to a size that won’t allow them to function and the mouse will die. If we would quit giving the enemy things to chew on in our lives... the small things in our lives would die and not grow into uncontrollable issues.

So the mouse chews on plastic, rubber, paper, wood, anything to survive. The spiritual mouse? It chews on our complaining, critiquing, attitudes, and anything unclean in our lives. A mouse contaminates and corrupts. It nibbles. We shouldn’t nibble at the Word of God, we should consume it all. Whether we like it or not. Don’t pick and choose what you’re willing to adhere to.

Google commons

The people of God were told the mouse is unclean to you.

Leviticus 11:29: These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse....

Here is the crux of the matter. If we will take care of singular issues in our lives and not allow issues to multiply, we can and will win the battle.

Only the Philistines had a mice problem:
Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land... 1 Sam 6:5‬ ‭

God never intended for us to have a mice problem. And preventing that means we must take care of issues that come our way. Unclean breeds with unclean.

We should keep our teeth sharp by chewing and consuming good things. O’ taste and see that the Lord is good.

Google commons

How to keep mice out of your life.

1) Shut the door and make sure there aren’t any holes in it. Shore up the walls. Repair any breaches.

2) If you make a mess clean it up. A mouse is drawn to the unclean. If you make a mistake, repent. To continue going down the wrong road will only invite the unclean into your life. Don’t sit around in a mess you made. Clean it up and go on.

3) Clean up the crumbs. Don’t leave any amount of food out. It will attract a mouse. Before you know it, you will have mice. And they multiply fast.

We attract the unclean into our lives when we leave the Word of God unconsumed on the pews. Empower yourself by taking heed to the Word of God.

Jesus said gather up the fragments that remain that nothing should be lost. Uneaten word of God can be served again and again.

When the preacher preaches consume it all.

Everyone has probably encountered a mouse in their lives literally and spiritually. It’s what we do after that, that determines if we will have a mice problem.

Don’t allow the mouse to loose the Lion!

Dimensions of the Holy Spirit

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is an article by an unknown author I wanted to share.

Dimensions of the Relationship with the Holy Spirit

1. The Holy Spirit is with us to bring us to Christ.
“...He dwells with you...” John 14:16

2. The Holy Spirit is in us to make us more like Christ.
“...and will be in you...” John 14:16

"And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.'" John 20:22

3. The Holy Spirit is upon us to empower us to continue the work of Christ.

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

The Holy Spirit is in you for you.
The Holy Spirit upon you is for others.

The Holy Spirit in you is for your character.
The Holy Spirit is upon you for ministry.

Modesty Of Dress

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is an article by an unknown author I wanted to share.

Google commons

Mary Quant, who took credit on inventing miniskirt and hot pants admitted that her aim of creating this was to entice men and promote licentiousness, it is designed to seduce men, whether you believe it or not.
Where in, the world accepted it and think it's fun, beautiful, gorgeous, trend and fashion!
It's the world, it's given - it's common.

But, Christian ladies, examine what kind of dresses you are wearing everyday, make sure it does not give any provision to the devil, to draw men to your body to lust thereof, but dressed Modestly in a way that every men may see Christ in you and start to think and be curious who is He that is in you!

Google commons

To say, "it's his problem if he lust" shows disobedience to God. Be not an stumbling block to your brethren.

1 Samuel 16:7 says, "...man looketh on the outward appearance." If Clothing is worn that attracts attention to the body, it can cause some men to sin just as surely as Bathsheba was instrumental in king David's sin.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 (KJV) In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

A Modest Choice

The Father

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is an article by an unknown author that I am sharing.

Google commons

It is erroneously stated that Oneness Apostolics deny the Father. This is not possible. Without the Father, which is a title, there wouldn’t be a Son, which is also a title. The Father is a singular Holy Spirit. God is invisible and will NEVER be seen by anyone. The only begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father, which is Jesus Christ, hath declared Him. The word declared means to unfold…. The Father is that one omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, invisible Spirit that is resident and manifest in the Son - hence the Son. The Son is not eternal. There was a day the Son was begotten.

It must be dismissed that The Father sits on the throne and Jesus is kneeling or standing next to Him. God is invisible and that will Never change. Jesus is the image, the only image, of that invisible God.

Google commons

We have been programmed to conjure up images of the Father, which is natural. When you say Father and Son you automatically think of two. Yet, our God is one Lord. How can this be? That One Spirit became flesh. God sent His Son is rendered and understood to be by revelation that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

…until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ
In his times He shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of Lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. 1 Tim ‭6.

The Father can’t sit on the throne because the Father is an invisible Spirit, He is an invisible Spirit and always will be. Who sits on the throne? The Son of God. Who is the Son of God? The manifestation, the declaration, the image or the icon of God.

Thomas wanted to see the Father, Jesus said when you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father. No man will ever see God, we will never see the light of God.

Google commons

His Name shall be called - Jesus shall be called - Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. These are names ascribed to the child that would be born. The government shall be on His shoulder. This was the cross that He would bear.

Jesus was
The Lamb
The High priest
Bread of Life
The Mercy Seat
The Blood on the Mercy Seat
The Veil that was rent in Twain signified His flesh.

How can Jesus be the Father and the Son? The same way He can be the Lion and the Lamb. The same way He can be the first and the last. The same way He can be the beginning and the end. The same way He can be All there is.

Jesus is the song of Heaven
Jesus is the light of Heaven
Jesus created the Heavens - all things were made by Him - Who is Him? Jesus - and for Him. Jesus made the throne that He sits on.

Google commons

Stephen saw the Glory of God - and Jesus. Would it surprise you to know that the one who is and was the first and the last, the Lion and the Lamb is also the the Glory of God? Jesus is the brightness of His Glory. Jesus is the visible manifestation of the Invisible God.

There is no office that Jesus does not fill. Pull back the curtain of the Father, you’ll find Jesus. The greatest name in this world and the world to come? Jesus Christ.

It’s blindness that causes anyone to say that God’s name is God. Jesus called Satan the god of this world. That’s emphatic, empirical proof that g-o-d is not a name. Judas is known as the son of perdition. That’s emphatical, empirical proof that s-o-n, is not a name.

There is only one name - Jesus. Is His name Jehovah? Jesus means Jehovah has become our salvation. All of the compound names of Jehovah in the Old Testament are found and revealed in Jesus Christ.

The compound names of Jehovah or Yahweh found in the Old Testament are fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Jehovah Jireh - the Lord will provide - Jesus
Jehovah Rapha - the Lord who heals - Jesus
Jehovah Nissi - the Lord is my banner - Jesus

Google commons

These and many more reflect God's character and His relationship with humanity.

In that day there shall be One Lord and His Name one.

You can’t cast out a devil by saying father, son, or Holy Ghost.

Jesus said in my name you shall cast out devils
At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow
Repentance and remission of sins shall be preached in His Name

The lame man was healed by the Name of Jesus Christ, and it’s the only Name given under heaven whereby we must be saved.

“Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD?

and there is no God else beside me;

for I am God, and there is none else.

Google commons

That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.   Isaiah‬ ‭45.

“that at the name of JESUS every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians‬ ‭2

“Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour - Isaiah 43:11 - Jesus is that savior.

Unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11

There is no office He does not fill
There is no sickness He cannot heal - that’s Jesus.

Google commons

There are no songs written about any other god. There are no sermons preached about any other name. Preach about Jehovah, it will lead you to Jesus. Preach about One God, it will lead you to Jesus. Preach about one Lord, you’ll be preaching about Jesus. Preach about healing? You’ll be preaching about Jesus. Jesus saves - Jesus Heals. Jesus delivers - it’s the Son that sets us free. That’s Jesus. Who died and rose again? Jesus. Who is Jesus going to present the church to? Jesus. Himself. From Genesis to Revelation, it’s Jesus. From the rising of the Son to the going down of the same it’s Jesus!

Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and that emphatically means there is none above Him. He is subservient to none. That’s the voice of God. He thought it not robbery to be EQUAL with God. Jesus said my Father is greater than I - Jesus was saying The Spirit is greater than this flesh.

Who being in the form (external appearance) of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. He was God manifest in the flesh. God revealed. Jesus is the only God we will ever see. There are not two - there is only one person of God. It was Job that said will you accept His person? There are not three persons. There is only one. There is only one Lord - Jesus is that Lord. There is only One Spirit, Jesus is that Spirit. There is only one name, Jesus is that Name. There is only one potentate. Jesus is that Potentate. There is only one King, Jesus is that King. There is only one throne - Jesus sits on that throne.

Things That Break God's Heart

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is a list of unbelief we should stay away from.

Google commons

Things that Break the Holy Spirit’s Heart!

1. A persistent life of disobedience (Is 63:10).

2. When we make a commitment to the Lord and don’t make good on that promise (Acts 5:3).

3. When we reject His messengers (Acts 7:51).

4. When we harden our hearts during hard times (Heb 3:7-8).

5. When we intentionally hurt others (Eph 4:30).

6. When we fear men more than we love Him (1 Thess 5:19).

7. When we credit the devil with miracles done by the Holy Spirit (Luke 12:10).

The Gift of Apostleship

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is an article I wanted to share with you from an unknown author.

Google commons

Maybe consider this… that Apostles don’t “rule” over cities; they are sent to them.
They don’t “rule over” nations; they simply go there.
They are not a governmental rule over a physical location.

I am asking you to re-consider the biblical pattern.

Apostleship is a gifting. It’s a function. It is not a power-position. It is a ministry of servanthood to Christ to carry on the ministry of reconciliation in the dynamic of planting and establishing outposts of the kingdom in unreached areas.  Apostles establish EKKLESIA (an executive branch of an existing government - in this case, the Kingdom of God - in a territory).

This is one of the many reasons why Pastors and others have been so resistant to the idea of apostleship - the idea that Apostles and prophets are “higher” rather than “different” has been problematic in the very consideration of employing these giftings.  It is also one of the reasons that we are often pressured to re-define or dilute biblical apostleship.

Google commons

Paul explains apostleship in 1 Corinthians 2.   It’s not glamorous. It’s closer to a death sentence by giving your life to kingdom work.

In our modern corporate minds everything is bent on hierarchy and positional leaders.
We have a pyramid mentality of “church” where the most important are at the top, the definitely important are in the middle and the least important are at the bottom. Five fold ministry giftings are then perceived as upper positions rather than servanthood ministries and so the pursuit to clamor after them has made many stark raving mad and the existing upper leadership (pastors) incredibly gun-shy.

When we lose that pyramid mindset we will shut down the power-struggles and the need for the apostle and prophet to have such demonstration and super-powerful ministries in order to prove themselves worthy of such a high calling (in our minds).  That in itself is a dangerous door; pursuit of gfts and the supernatural has caused many a called man to stumble into serious imbalance and even venture into the New Age and the demonic while pushing to give his display of proof for who he is.

Google commons

Once these are seen as different giftings with diverse operations rather than hierarchical governing positions then those who function in  “five fold ministry” can come together without fear of territorialism, take-over-ism, and elitism being debated.

We don’t have that expression of apostles and prophets at “ruling over” territories at all in Scripture. We do find them operating in the power of Christ wherever they go; and it’s simply an outflow of their relationship with and declaration of Jesus Christ.  In fact the synonym for “authority” is “responsibility” - and that is the servanthood functionality in its rawest form.

In fact, we find that those who operated in apostleship and the prophetic were sent by the church; they went to different people groups and cultures to preach Jesus and the Kingdom; and from within that place the bi-product would be a community of believers planted and established in Christ as the preeminent one and functional Head and those believers being equipped to follow after the indwelling Spirit of Christ.

Google commons

Apostles would later appoint elders in those church plants to oversee (not be the Head).

There is a constant continuation in Scriptural example of those who functioned in apostleship going forth and reaching into new cities, nations, and territories to preach the gospel as itinerant church planters and then maintaining connection with those plants to help re-center them when needed.

It’s an obvious New Testament pattern; city, national, or regional “rulership” is not.  A man can operate in apostleship in Africa but that doesn’t mean he is the Apostle “over” Africa even if he is sent to Africa.

If you want to see what a church government “ruling” over cities and nations looks like, look deeply at the Catholic Church and it’s hierarchical set up for the past 1,500 years.  We don’t need to re-vamp their ideas for the now. We simply need a revolution back to Century One Church.

With the hierarchical and territorial set-up, there is an absolute open door for…
Doctrines to be corrupted.
Power becomes pursuit.
The supernatural is misrepresented.
Money is mishandled.
The bride of Christ loses her place.
Ministry is capsized.
Spiritual abuse occurs.

Google commons

We must be careful in our pursuit of the Century One Church to not be distracted by that which has always seemed to destroy the body of Christ.

Maybe consider this…

Deep Roots

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is a nice message I wanted to share from an unknown author.

Google commons

Are you cold? Does it feel like God is a million miles away sometimes?

You attend church and don’t feel anything? You may be a praise singer, a musician, or the all important member who worships in the pew. You may be a preacher. Keep going. Keep coming. You’re normal, you’re human, and you’re still a Christian. I want to encourage someone who may be cold on God. You want to know why, but the answer doesn’t come, because there are no answers during a test.

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man it goeth into the dry places seeking rest and finding none. I believe this is because dry places are the strongest places.

“We are never stronger than when we are at our weakest place, because in our weakness his strength is made perfect.”

Google commons

It is during these times that there is nothing evident above the earth that would indicate strength, but something is happening in the unseen world, and your roots are going deeper in search of water. The bible says that when Moses struck the rock that the water flowed to the dry places, and when God does move in our lives, there is one thing evident that our trust in him and His love for us is a testimony to ourselves, that He is able to carry us through any situation.

Keep being faithful to church. “but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ ‭

Preach your last sermon; God will give you another one. Sing your last song; God will give you another one. The oil and the meal may run low, but it will never run dry.

The King James Bible

Hello everyone.  Praise the Lord!

Here is something I would like to share from an unknown author about the King James Bible.

Google commons

This is one of most amazing subjects I’ve ever been blessed to research. If you’ve ever wondered about the formation of the English Bible, I’ve just scratched the surface of the amazing journey.

The King James Bible has always had a special place in untold millions of hearts, mine being one of them. I have read and studied on just a few aspects of this grand work that literally changed the world. The work began in the year of 1604 and took seven years to complete.

54 learned men were given the task to translate the Bible into English. There were to be six teams with nine scholars on each team. In the study “The History of the Reformation of the Church of England, only 47 names are identified. Seven of the men died early on in the process.

Google commons

Many were involved in the translation:

Primarily
Cambridge University - established in 1209
Westminster Abbey - established in 1269
Oxford University - established in 1096

Secondarily
Edinburgh University - established in 1583
Dublin University - established in 1592
Leiden University - established in 1575

The 47 translators were divided into six teams.

Nineteenth century writers and literary critics proclaimed the King James Version (KJV) Bible, as the noblest monument of English prose. But it was so much more than that.

Sir Arthur Quiller-Coach, who published the Oxford book of English declared that the KJV was “the very greatest” literary achievement in the English language.

The KJV Bible was not a follower. It established literary trends. It shaped the English language as the best conveyor of religious truths.

This great work came to be seen as the foundation of “every” aspect of English culture.

In 1620, Francis Bacon observed that three inventions shaped the world. Printing, gunpowder, and the magnet. The magnet enabled sea travel when the stars were covered by the clouds. Prior to the invention of the compass, no sailer dared leave sight of the shore.

A goldsmith from Germany named Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable-type printing press in 1440 -Let the printing revolution begin.

Around 1449/50 Gutenberg began cutting the type for the first printed Bible. Composition began in 1452 and the printing was completed in 1456. Six or seven years was needed to print the first bible. It is thought that the first printing produced 180 copies of which 48 still exist today. They are worth about $35 million each if you are fortunate enough to have one.

Gutenberg printed 135 of them on paper and 45 on vellum. Vellum is parchment made from the skin of a calf.

Research in 2021 conducted by the British and Foreign Bible Society estimates the total number of bibles in existence lies between 5 and 7 billion copies.

As of 2022 Wycliffe Global Alliance says the Bible has been translated into 724 languages, with another 1,617 languages that have the New Testament. With 7,000 languages in the world, the need is great. It’s estimated that 3,589 languages have access to at least one book.

Some may only have access to one book. Rev Steve Waldron correctly states, what if that book of the Bible is the only one they have? If you only have the book of Matthew in your possession, having a verse in Mark doesn’t help you.

William Tyndale - he was executed for producing an English Bible at the age of 42. The Tyndale bible lives on in the King James Version. He coined, (among others), “my brother’s keeper, the salt of the earth, the powers that be, and a law unto themselves.” The work he completed is simply astounding. William Tyndale constructed the word Jehovah from the Tetragrammaton, he also invented the word Passover from the Hebrew word Pesah. He also coined the words “scapegoat,” and “atonement.” He created new English words to accommodate biblical ideas. He was a master at neologism.

3 philosophies of Bible translation

formal equivalence - word for word
functional equivalence - thought for thought
optimal equivalence - balancing tension between accuracy & ease of reading

William Tyndale (1494-1536) never considered functional or optimal equivalence. To use functional & optimal equivalence is to interpret before translating.

Readability of:

Message Bible    4th-5th grade level
NIV & ESV            7th-8th grade level
KJV                       12th grade level

Using the Internet anyone can benefit from the 1,000s of hours of research comparing line by line of the different bible translations. Many liberties have been taken by using functional and optimal equivalence in translating.

“I never altered one syllable of God’s Word against my conscience, nor would do this day, if all that is in earth, whether it be honor, pleasure, or riches, might be given me.” William Tyndale, Martyr of God/Translated Bible to English. The scholars of the KJV 1611 used 80+% of this one man’s work.

Many bible translators can’t say those words William Tyndale uttered, as many translated with a slant towards their own religious bias.

Johannes Gutenberg thought that his printing press invention would make him rich. While his achievement secured his place in history, he died in poverty. Others grew rich from his invention as demand for books greatly increased.

The ability to read had once been reserved for the clergy, but the printing press put books in the hands of anyone that could afford them. The Bible was of course the largest book at that time, but it would have cost about three years worth of wages to acquire one.

Many homes deemed the Bible to be an essential part of the home for devotions. Books were a hot commodity, and none more so than the Bible.

In the 14th century not very many people could read. The main reason? Not very many books. All were hand written. The printing press put books in everyone's hands. Then people discovered that they couldn't see the small print. This led to the widespread use of eyeglasses. Eyeglasses led to the invention of the telescope. Printing paved the way for astronomy. Great things lead to greater things.

The struggle for an English bible had many roadblocks. The clergy didn’t want the people to be able to read the Bible for themselves, so they ridiculed the English language. English was seen as the language of only the poor and considered incapable of discussing anything of importance.

In 1466 a German Bible was published at Strasbourg. Martin Luther’s New Testament translation was published in 1522.

Translating the Bible into English was forbidden and even illegal under a decree known as the Constitutions of Oxford. The clergy said it was far too dangerous to be in the hands of the laity.

The English language began to find its footing in the 15th century. They wanted a national language and the French language began to be replaced by English. There were still many pushing Latin and French, but the English language would soon prevail.

At this time, the Bible was almost exclusively only available in Latin. When Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door, it was written in Latin.

The reign of Henry V is seen as a turning point for the acceptance of the English language. The 100 years war cast the French language as the language of the enemy. This greatly helped the English language to find a foot hold. There was a line in Henry VI part II: He can speak French; and therefore he is a traitor.

English would first become the language of the religious underground. To write in English in many circles would label you as a heretic.

In the academic world, they were still committed to Latin. From the 15-17th century only about 1 out of a 100 books was printed in English.

The Renaissance and the Protestant reformation had a significant impact on the English language. The wider access to books being printed in English helped significantly. The Bible and Shakespeare were at the top of the list.

The following is a list of the English Bibles and the year they were printed:

1. The Wycliffe Bible (1382

Martin Luther would play a large part in inspiring William Tyndale to publish an bible in English.

Martin Luther 1483-1546 planned to become a lawyer. In 1505 at the age of 22 he was ready to study law. However, while in a thunderstorm, lightning knocked him off his horse. He cried, St Anne help me! I will become a monk! And to the dismay of his family he did just that. Throughout history being saved from death changed many lives.

No doubt Luther saw himself as a man who was deeply sinful. He observed the rules of his order with the utmost scrupulosity.  "I was a good monk, and kept the rule of my order so strictly that I can say that, if ever a monk got to heaven by his monastic discipline, that was me."

It was not until 1515 that Martin Luther would discover that it was God’s righteousness not his own that would save him.

Who was King James?

During her imprisonment at Lochleven Castle in Scotland, Mary Queen of Scots is forced to abdicate in favor of her one-year-old son, later crowned King James VI of Scotland.

In 1542, while just six days old, Mary ascended to the Scottish throne upon the death of her father, King James V. Her mother sent her to be raised in the French court, and in 1558 she married the French dauphin, who became King Francis II of France in 1559 but died the following year. After Francis’ death, Mary returned to Scotland to assume her designated role as the country’s monarch.

In 1565, she married her English cousin Lord Darnley in order to reinforce her claim of succession to the English throne after Elizabeth’s death. In 1567, Darnley was mysteriously killed in an explosion at Kirk o’ Field, and Mary’s lover, the Earl of Bothwell, was the key suspect. Although Bothwell was acquitted of the charge, his marriage to Mary in the same year enraged the nobility, and Bothwell and Mary were imprisoned. Mary was held on the tiny island of Loch Leven, where she was forced to abdicate in favor of her son by Darnley, James.

In 1568, she escaped from captivity and raised a substantial army but was defeated and fled to England. Queen Elizabeth initially welcomed Mary but was soon forced to put her friend under house arrest after Mary became the focus of various English Catholic and Spanish plots to overthrow Elizabeth. Nineteen years later, in 1586, a major plot to murder Elizabeth was reported, and Mary was brought to trial. She was convicted for complicity and sentenced to death.

On February 8, 1587, Mary Queen of Scots was beheaded for treason. Her son, King James VI of Scotland, calmly accepted his mother’s execution, and upon Queen Elizabeth’s death in 1603 he became king of England, Scotland, and Ireland. This information was from the history channel.
——-
James was in bed, but not yet asleep, when he learned that he had become King of England. He had been King of Scotland since he was one year old, when his mother Mary, Queen of Scots had been deposed thirty-five years before. He had spent his life in the wings and now, at last, his great scene was about to begin.

The first Bible translation from Hebrew was into Greek, known as the Septuagint. The Septuagint was translated in the 3rd century BC in Alexandria, Egypt by a group of Jewish scholars. The Septuagint became an important text in the early Christian church and was widely used by Greek-speaking Jews and Christians.

The Bible was translated from Hebrew to Latin by Saint Jerome in the 4th century AD. This translation, known as the Vulgate, became the standard version of the Bible in the Western Church for over a thousand years. Saint Jerome's translation was highly influential and had a significant impact on the development of Christianity in Europe. He dedicated over 40 years of his life to this great work.

All of the Old Testament books were written in Hebrew with the exception of a few portions written in Aramaic. The entirety of the New Testament books were written in Greek. All surviving manuscripts of the NT are in Greek though some suspect earlier copies contained some written in Aramaic.

John Wycliffe was born in Yorkshire, England in 1328. He translated the first full Bible into English in 1382. He passed away in 1384.

Wycliffe took on a monumental task translating the Bible into English. It took him and his assistants 13 years.

What did Wycliffe use to translate the Bible into English?

He used the Latin Vulgate written by St Jerome.

St Jerome was born in 347AD and he died in 420ad. He completed the Latin Vulgate in 405AD. He invested over 40 years in translating the Bible into Latin.

Jerome was a highly educated scholar and linguist who was fluent in several languages, including Hebrew and Greek. He spent many years studying in Rome and other centers of learning throughout Europe and the Middle East. During this time, he would have had access to a wide variety of manuscripts and sources, including copies of the Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible. He also had access to other scholars and experts who could help him with any difficult passages or translations. In short, Jerome's extensive education, language skills, and scholarly connections allowed him to obtain and study the original Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible.

2. "The face of prayer is the gateway to Heaven."
3. "The Bible is a book of life; it teaches us to live and die."
4. "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in Heaven."
5. "The reading of Scripture is an exercise of the soul; it should be done with reverence and attention."
6. "The Scriptures are like a river that never runs dry."
7. "Prayer is the key that opens the door to Heaven."
8. "He who loves the Scriptures loves God."
9. "The word of God is like a two-edged sword that pierces the soul."
